The Birdcage Collection
Earrings

(Updated 11/12/2008)

Welcome to the Bird Cage. I now have earrings available. All of my designs are made with French sterling silver wires. I use the shorter version because collars and turtlenecks tend to raise the longer wires and it is easier for them to slip off and never be found again. If you would like to purchase a pair, but would prefer to have the longer wire I can make that change easily. A small elastic band can be attached to the longer ear wire. All of my earrings are made with sterling silver, unless otherwise noted.

Big Daddy Thai

More Thai fish from karen hill tribe...these are fun and different, and topped off with pretty mother of pearl. I guess you really have to be into fish to wear these, but I like them a lot. They are just playful. I had a 3 strand necklace for sale on the website, full of little fishies like these swimming on the strands of pearls. That has sold, but you can see it in the Sun Dress collection. If you are interested in having a matching Big Daddy Thai Fish swimming necklace made, email me.

$20

Birds of Paradise

These pretty little bird cages are not silver. They are silver plated, but will stay nice and bright. Clear pink glass and a glass pearl complete the bird cage. This necklace is a great match for Laurina in the Mardis Gras collection. The ear wires are silver.

$20

Blue Sea

This is a pair of deep blue lapis earrings. They are mixed with bali silver and they hang from French ear wires.
These would go well with the traveler necklace, too.

$20

Elegant Ellie

These earrings are for your more elegant side! Pretty, pretty carnelian from Brazil, it is one of my favorite stones. It comes in endless colors of reds, oranges, browns, yellows, even a little green. It is just a beautiful stone. In these earrings, I have mixed the more transluscent rust and brown, yellow and orange together. There is even a pink hue to a few of the colors..very warm colors. I have added nice bali silver beads and presto! Elegant Ellie!

$25

Ponderosa

I love the colors of the green and tan picture jasper. These earrings, with the jasper, dark rhodonite and bali silver match the ponderosa horse necklace. I have used pretty french ear wires, a light gauge, with flat, hammered backs.

$20

Santa Rosario

Beautiful hand rolled silver and turquoise make this pair of earrings. they are wire wrapped at the top and are 2 1/4 inches long from the French ear wire. they are are little pricier than most of my earrings, but they were pricier to put together all around. They are beautiful though.

$45

Tucson

This pair of earrings are made of jasper, tigers eye and pretty Balinese conch squares. They match the Tucson horse charm necklace. They are connected to French ear wires.

$20

Silver Wings

This beautiful set is made from Aztec silver and Taxco silver from Mexico. Aventurine quartz creates a beautiful drop.

$20

Narcissus

Another match for Laurina or Filette. Glass teardrop pearls and green glass caps are like little flower petals.

$20

Flower Child

These are a match for Etienne in the Mardis Gras collection. Pretty green flower lampworked beads from India and lots of sterling wire work.

$20

Papaya Lime

I call these earrings Papaya Lime. They are African opals, and if you want to know more about these opals, visit my news page and click on the Kampala section. I cannot get enough of these beautiful stones. The earring wires are sterling silver, the beads are Balinese and the wirework is all sterling.

$20

Mocha Malt

This is Mocha Malt. The African opal is so pretty. When I photographed this, I turned one of the stones around so you can see all of the colors. The back side of the lighter round stone is darker. Balinese silver and silver ear wires finish this necklace.

$20

Lime

Meet Lime, without the papaya. These gorgeous African opal balls are lime with a hint of yellow. The coin beads are Balinese, from Celuk. The small green beads are opals. Silver ear wires make them very elegant.

$20

Sugar Cane

When I lived in New Mexico, I worked for a summer cutting sugar cane. These African opals remind me of the color of the canes once they were melted into syrup. It was like liquid gold. In this photo the ear wires are not attached yet. What would you like? Short wires or long? Sterling, of course.

$20

Banana Leaf

Banana Leaf
Sometimes when I look at a color it just quickly brings to mind something I have seen, or done, or maybe a place I have been to. This reminds me of banana leaves. I have seen them in Mexico and the Caribbean. I think these stones are picturesque, maybe banana leaves floating in the breeze.

$15

Lipstick

This is definitely a lipstick plant. These are awesome, the color photo is right on. African opals and silver.

$20

Sea Breeze

This is Sea Breeze. More African opals, and Balinese silver. These are definitely not of the lime category. They are a rich, deep green. Very pretty, I think!

$20

Eclipse

These stones are African brownite. Very expensive and not too much mining of this stone any longer. The photo captures the colors perfectly. It is a multicolored brown stone with pretty flecks of gold stone. The clear yellow stones at the top and bottom are Citronite, also an African stone. Really fun and pretty earrings.

$20

Laffy Taffy

These remind me of Laffy Taffy, especially raspberry and strawberry and blueberry. The stones are all African opals. The swirls at the bottom are made by Karen Hill tribe and the wire work at the top is sterling. These are a little pricier because of the karen Hill work.

$20

Jo-Jo's

Okay, these are not potatoes, but the pretty colors remind me of the Jo-Jo's they sell down the street at the M and M Quickstop. I don't buy them because I have seen the deep fat fryer they use to make them...but potatoes do fry up into beautiful colors, so here is your very own pair of Jo-Jo's without the fat. More African opals and dangly silver work. Again, a little pricier, too, than Jo-Jo's at the local market.

$20

St. Croix

Beautiful African blue opals, like the Caribbean Sea and Bali silver.

$20

Nuevo Yerba

There is a striation in the left stone that makes me think of a beautiful grassy hill and all of the colors in the stones make me think of pretty green grasses. Very pretty greens. Nuevo Yerba means "new grass" in Spanish.

$20

Summer Melons

These earrings is so fun. They actually go with the melon necklace in the new Sundress Collection. It is made from dyed Tennessee River shell and mother of pearl. Sterling wires, of course and the drops are all hung from cable sterling silver.

$20

Lemon Custard

These earrings are African opals, both the yellow and the pink. Be sure to go to my Kampala news to learn about African Opals. My matching necklaces are in the Meridian Collection. The focal beads here are Balinese. The opal on the right is more yellow that the one on the left, but there is more yellow on the back side of the one on the left! There, that's confusing. They are beautiful earrings. Sterling wires.

$20

Crape Myrtle

Well, the words crape and myrtle were interesting research. The word crape comes from the word crepe which is a crinkly fabric, but when the word is used in front of myrtle, Google says it's spelled crape. But I don't know why. Maybe the word looks better with an a than an e?? Does anyone know? Anyway, the crape myrtle bush (Growing up in the south, we called it a bush) is absolutely gorgeous. Pinks, reds, purples against lush greens. My mom has the prettiest crape myrtles, but I'll bet she spells crape with an e. I will ask her. The pinks are cracked glass and the green is Chrysophase stone from Brazil. Everything else is sterling silver!

$20

Fernwood

As you probably already know, I am in love with these African opals. They may begin to all look alike, but they are all different. The colors are just so dramatic and lush and pretty. They are all mixed with sterling Balinese beads.

$20

Lemongrass

Green and yellow opals.

$20

Blue Lilacs

Blue and white with a hint of purple and lavender.

$20

Oyster Blue

Something about these colors remind of the blue hint on some oyster shells. The earring on the left looks like the top opal is smaller, but it isn't. It moves around on the left with a beautiful dark blue swirl and has the paler light blue on the other side.

$20

Caramel Candy

Very rich, deep browns and a sterling swirl below.

$20

Milky Way

More rich beautiful brown opals from Africa.

$20

Chocolate Cream

Pretty dark brown and creamy whites.

$20

Pink Marshmallow

Pretty pink opals!

$20

Pink Clouds

More pink opals in a different design. Very feminine, very pink.

$20

Bluegrass

The round stones are actually African turquoise, which is really a type of Jasper, but just as beautiful, if not more so, than any mined turquoise. The squares are Opals.

$20

Turquoise Hills

These are Karen Hill tribe hammered lentil beads. They are very, very beautiful sterling beads. I have matched them up with turquoise nuggets and wire wrapped silver. The earrings are lightweight as the hammered beads are hollow.
