Las Puertas de Santa Fe
(Doors of Sante Fe)
(Updated May 2010)
I am continuing to work on my 'Mexican Window' pendant collection. It is
my interpretation of beautiful windows on Alamos streets and I hope
you'll enjoy looking at them.
Also, I am going to begin showing you a new collection, 'Las Puertas de
Santa Fe'.
If you have been to the good2go2mexico blog then you know that Santa Fe
has a special place in my heart. It is the town where my husband and I
met in the early 1970's. It is a very magical town and although it has
grown into a rather large town now, years later it still has a very
quiet, charming atmosphere that says, "slow down and sit at the plaza
for the afternoon......."
If you have been to the blog, you also know about my fascination with
doors and gates and windows, which is really how the 'Mexican Window'
collection began.
Las Puertas de Santa Fe or the Doors of Santa Fe is another
representation. Some pendants have two doors, some have one, some are
clear and sparkling, some are old and rough while others just beg you to
open them up so you can see what is behind.
All of my brilliant pendants are fused dichroic glass and come with
either a sterling silver plate or 14K gold plate bail. A 3 strand ribbon
necklace is included. It is easily removed to allow you to add a
favorite gold or sterling chain through the bail. All of my earrings
come with sterling silver earwires and rubber backs or 14 k gold plate
earwires and rubber backs.

Galisteo Street
 |
Galisteo Street is busy with businesses,
galleries and shops. But as you get farther away from the plaza
and look closely, beyond the thick, lush cottonwoods along the
street, you will see this beautiful bright door. Sparkling in
the evening sun, the single door, with a wrought iron grill,
opens onto a pebble strewn courtyard filled with apricot trees
and bancos (benches) draped in Navajo weavings.
Galisteo is 1 1/2 x 1 1/8 and is shown with a sterling silver
plated bail. It is layered on a clear green base.
If you would prefer a handmade PMC pure silver bail, it is an
additional $15. |

Canyon Road
 |
Canyon Road winds its way up the hillside. As
the road narrows, before it becomes lost in a swath of hillside
color, you will find a tall door surrounded by huge overgrown
cottonwood trees and thickets of dark purple lilacs. The pink
glass in the door is bright and sparkling, shimmering in the
reflection of the sun setting behind the hills. Something tall
moves behind the door. Don't be afraid, all doors open to
something new and beautiful. Opening the door slightly brings a
fresh wind that has been kissed by the sun. Open it farther and
you can see tall white tufted flowers swaying in the breeze,
against the green grass and beyond, fields and fields of yellow
poppies. There is no wall, no house, no courtyard, only the
door............
Canyon Road is 2' x 1 1/4" with a clear orange base and transparent pink
center annealed and hardened for over 60 hours. It has a sterling silver
plated hatch bail and a 3 ribbon cord necklace. |

Bishop's Lodge Road
|
There is a closed door in an old cabin on
Bishop's Lodge Road. A long rutted dirt road meanders through a
thicket of skinny mulberries and huge cottonwood trees. The road
ends at the door of the old wooden cabin. The door is heavy and
dark, but it has a thick pane of glass in the center. As the
sunlight weaves in and out of the tree branches, it plays a
story on the glass. The story of the family who grew up here,
years ago. A family who ran in and out of this door, slamming
it, shoving it, carressing it, smelling its newness after the
father had oiled it. Feeling its coolness after a long winter of
snow, touching its warmth after a day in the sun. The secret
door to a cabin lived in by a family long gone, moved on to
making new memories, but leaving behind thousands of old
wonderful memories behind the door....
Bishop's Lodge Road is 2" x 1 1/3". It is dichroic glass layered
on a solid black base with a blue green translucent center. It
has a sterling silver plate hatch bail with a 3 ribbon cord
necklace. |

Aqua Fria Street

|
Once I opened the door to the garden. The door
was bright and inviting, with colorful panes of glass glistening
in the sunlight. Large green and silver leaves surrounded me
immediately and as I brushed against them, the air filled with
the smell of sweet mint. My bare feet felt the damp coolness of
the stones below as I walked to the center of the courtyard.
Clear cold water tumbled over a three tiered stone fountain. I
picked a white jasmine flower from a thick vine and placed it in
the water at the top of the fountain. Slowly, it toppled, over
and over, twisting and turning in the fountain water. When it
fell into the bottom pool I picked it up and spread its petals,
laid it in the sun to dry and placed it in my hair....
Aqua Fria (cold water) Street is 2 1/4 x 1 1/4". It is layered
on red clear base with a translucent pink and solid red copper
center. It is hardened and annealed over 60 hours and has a
sterling silver plated bail with a 3 ribbon strand necklace. |

Old Santa Fe Trail
 |
This door, on the Old Santa Fe Trail, begs to
be opened. Sunlight streams through its old clear panel and in
the afternoon sun, it shimmers and sparkles.
Go on, push gently, this door is old, but not heavy, it will
open easily. Inside you will see white jasmine covered walls and
hummingbirds that flit from flower to flower. An hibiscus tree
is in the corner, ripe and full with orange blossoms. While lush
green vines hang from balconies above, a cat sleeps lazily on
the hot courtyard stones.......
Old Santa Fe Trail is 1 3/4" 1 1/2" layered on clear yellow base
yellow and pink translucent center. It has a 14 K gold plated
bail with a 3 strand black ribbon necklace. |
